Called 玉 (Yù) in Chinese, jade is important to Chinese culture because of its beauty and social value.

 

Jade has been a part of Chinese civilization for thousands of years, subdivided into soft jade (nephrite) and hard jade (jadeite; 翡翠 fěi cuì). The latter, jadeite jade, is more valuable.
